
I actually wrote this piece 5 years ago, but unfortunately the movie industry is still as resistant to change as it ever was. Perhaps “Avatar” represents change, because it really was an attempt to provide an experience that really couldn’t be duplicated at home, and people happily ponied up higher prices to experience it. I’m not very confident though, because there will soon be a rush of 3D movies that will exploit the gimmick without providing worthwhile content, just like they did in the 50s when 3D was first introduced and then abused into failure.
